Kettlebell Club Training 6-12-11

I haven’t seen Jay Armstrong in a long time and my swing techique showed it.

We just covered the simple RKC swing. This is not the efficient swing of the AKC, where your swinging or snatching for reps. This is the swing of maximum effort and result.

Today’s class covered all the basics:

  • breathing – quick short breaths, in nose – out mouth
  • use of tension and release
  • body position – used the simple plank as an example of proper position
  • putting in maximum effort

All in all in was an easy class, though it was hard for me to adjust my form to Jay’s expectations. When you are away from proper intruction for too long, you can end up with some flaws to your technique.

Things to improve upon:

  1. Take the tension out of my neck and face
  2. Put the tension into my “core” when swinging the bell and let the body pull the bell back down (think lats)
  3. Find the spot where the bell needs to go to finish then explode from there.
  4. Stand tall at the top of the swing

A good refresher!
